I used to tent camp in my teens. Friends and I would camp at a local Lake Michigan beach, swim, play Frisbee, try to meet up with some girls. But the thing that stuck with me the past 45-50 years about camping was that feeling of being in the outdoors, campfires, and meeting other people.
Well, now that I'm older and no longer tenting my wife and I still like that feeling of being outdoors, campfires, and meeting others. We not only travel to see and visit other parts of this beautiful country, but we've also used our RV to attend Nascar races, music festivals, to visit friends/relatives-often camping in their driveway or yard, attend horse racing events, and plenty of other things. We spent 80 nights in our camper this calendar year, which also included 6 weeks snowbirding in Florida.
Some people think their RV is just for camping, but we see it as our home away from home. As others have said, it's nice to sleep in your own bed at night, even if it's hundreds of miles from your bricks & sticks home.
BTW, you're going to occasionally want to go get some groceries after setting up camp. If you're lucky you can walk there, but taking along a bicycle or two really makes grocery shopping or the need for something else much easier, not to mention the option for some exercise. You'll find out pretty quick that not having to break down your camp for a quick run to a store will be a nice benefit.
