We have done it both ways--a nice long, cross-country trip with the kids and lots of shorter trips to state parks and COEs. At the moment, DH is retired and I work 20hrs/week. That gives us some time each month to take the trailer out for short trips. I'd love to take a longer trip, maybe 2-3 months, but I don't see that happening any time soon. I can retire in 5 years and I hope that won't be too late.
