How do we know which actually made the difference in the braking?
The hawk HD shoes or the larger wire.
My trailer only requires about 7 amps to lock up the brakes with original factory wiring and voltage applied is about 7.4 volts.
A few of ways. We're on the move just about every 2-3 days and every time we hit the road I hit the brake controller to test the brakes. The first time I tested them after the change they pulled much harder than before. Even my wife said, "Nice!". Another way is when stopping from highway speeds I no longer feel the trailer pushing the truck as much as before. And lastly the two mods were done at different times.
If your trailer only requires 7amps to lock the brakes then you probably won't benefit from a wire upgrade. My twin axle 37 footer weighs 15,500 at the scales so every bit helps.
Thanks for asking.
