I know that many small resort towns in MN and WI have a local handyman that services cabins and such for absentee owners. My best source for local information like this is the local Bait Shop. If the area is small in population, the Bait Shop will know who lives close.
I wouldn't use mothballs around small children. There is too much risk. I don't use them at all because I never have a moth problem. The mothballs either contain paradichlorobenzene or naphthalene. To deter rodents the concentrations would have to be as high as breathing inside a paint thinner can.
