How long can I leave my camper un-attended ?

We leave our camper on our private propertly way up north . I try to get up there at least every two weeks. . ..

It is on 8 acres, maybe 1/2 acre is cleared out for the camper.

what would happen if I didn't get up there for 6 months or longer ?

would it be overrun with mice and bugs ?

I'm just wondering how long most people go without at least "checking" on their campers when leaving them far away .. thanks !
  • I googled mothballs .. it says they are dangerous around babys . we have a 5 month old. .

Would leaving mothballs out at the camper when we're gone, then putting them away when we get there, be dangerous for babys ?

If it has the slightest change of harming the baby I wouldn't want to use it..

but what I read was storing blankets in mothballs, then wrapping the baby in the blanket it dangerous. .

A friend has acquired several travel trailers over the years. He uses most of them from time to time depending on where he camping or hunting. They are stored on his farm where mice and bugs are a problem. He claims that he uses moth balls to keep the TTs pest free. In each he places a couple of plastic containers with moth balls. While the TT is stored. A day before he's ready to use one of the TTs he opens up all the windos and vents, puts the lid on the plastic containers and stores them in a storage compartment.

Says he's never had a mouse or bug problem in all of the years he has stored the TTs.

I like that idea. Can anyone clarify exactly how I use the "moth balls " I've never heard this before ..

Please be careful with moth balls. They are pesticides. If you smell them, you are inhaling pesticides. They are toxic.
  • We have left our rig on private property for extended periods with no issues from mice or bugs, no surprise as where it is stored normally there are plenty of mice, bugs, and ants with no intrusions over 7 years. My biggest worry when leaving my rig un-attended for long periods of time a long distance from home is theft, kids looking for a place to party, and vandalism.

  • I have left my seasonal camper for 8 months without any issues in Northern MN. I leave sticky traps out for any mice, just in case.
  • if the mice bugs want your camper? time don,t matter. keep things clean and mouse proof as you can, good luck.
