I hung two bicycles on my BTouring Cruiser ladder, then drove about 4500 miles to Florida and back (plus touring). Very convenient for loading and unloading. However, the next trip to the Canadian Maritime area,in really heavy rain, convinced me to never do it again. Horrific leaking where the ladder joins the roof. Apparently, you can climb the ladder, but prolonged usage creates vibrations with serious consequences.
My suggestion, never hang anything on the ladder. I now have a truck camper on an F250 with fore and aft tow hitches and a platform carrier. Anything that doesn't fit stays home, including DW if her whining becomes more annoying than usual, although I can hardly hear her when she's on the rear carrier.
