Ladder/chair rack

Thinking about getting a ladder rack that goes on the back of the MH to hold the step ladder and a couple of chairs. Was wondering how everything is secured onto the MH, don't want things dropping off while going down the road or getting legs while camped some where.
  • There's another way to do it. We have this:

You can carry several bikes and a ladder. It's hitch mounted, so you can't tow and use it, but I ride this:

We use the rack for bikes, Trikkes and ladders! It works for us. The libel application of bungee cords is highly recommended!

  • I attach my 5 foot ladder to the rear ladder with 5 bungee straps and a chain with pad lock, the chain is tight and will hold it to the ladder and off the highway.I have a 82 Pace Arrow and the basement storage isn't hardly big enough to hold our 2 chairs.
  • The ladder on my MH is built to withstand 250 lbs, so if properly secured a light step ladder and a couple of lawn chairs will not over max the ladder. For securing the ladder and chairs to the ladder, I use a couple of small ratchet straps and a cable ratchet strap with a padlock. Yes it still can be stolen, but you would have to have a big bolt cutter or take the ladder and all off of the MH. A friend says I look like a red neck going down the road, but I have no compartment large enough for the step ladder to be in and with my lack of height a step ladder is a must have.:b
  • We used to hang a seven foot Step Ladder on the rear Ladder Our Old Rig because there was no enough room underneath to carry anything longer than about three feet.

I used a pair of U Bolts to make Hooks that worked very well. A couple of Bungee Cords kept it from flapping around.

Our current DSDP has more than enough basement storage so We no longer need to use the rear Ladder for this purpose!

Do whatever is necessary to accomplish Your Goals, just do it safely!
  • Bought a simple metal rack from CW that hooks over a ladder rung. I put two rocking type outdoor chairs on it. If I could get them in a storage bin I would, but I have nothing big enough. I use 6 various size bungees to secure rack and chairs. As previously stated, you don't want anything coming off to endanger someone following so it's imperative you check and double check your bungees!
  • Better know how to tie a knot....saw two chairs fall off once long time ago...not nice. In fact dangerous. That's why I use my storage areas for stuff. NOTHING on the ladder.
  • Most folks simply bungee cord them on. I have the folding ladder so it's only about 3 1/2" square when folded. I keep it and the chairs in one of the bays....Dennis
