- Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerThe story of not knowing what a ton weighs is just that, a story.
She told the story of "I didn't know what a ton weighs" because it sounds better than, "I was lazy and didn't feel like backing up."
Much like when an officer pulls you over for speeding and asks you "do you know how fast you were going?" You're not going to say, "hell ya, I was going 75 in a 55, so what." You're going to say; "aaaaaaaaaaaa, no I don't officer,"
It just sounds better. Get it? - TvovExplorer IINew drivers are new drivers.
A friend's son got his CDL a couple years ago, and the first thing he posted on Facebook was a selfie of himself driving the big rig. Yea, we all called him on it, but it took a bit before he stopped posting mid trip pictures. He also uses the excuse of using the cell phone while driving as a way to stay awake... - notevenExplorer IIIFor all the experts if you were never taught 2000 pounds equals a ton (USA and Canada ton) how would you know?
New Math is a wonderful thing.
The truck scales and cargo bills of lading should display both pounds and tons... because we wouldn't want bridge capacities in pounds like the scales show...
Oh by the way a "metric ton" (correct name the tonne) isn't any pounds unless you convert it. It is 1000 kilograms. Which is the mass of 1000 litres of fresh water (a common liquid on earth) which is also 1 cubic meter of water. Decimal math kinda like 10 x 10 cents = $1.00 only more annoying cause it is different.
Oh by the way our bridge marking authorities in Canada often post maximum signs in tonnes (abbreviated "t") instead of the kg that the truck weigh scales display so you still have to cipher it out... cause that only makes sense... - JC2Explorer

So *if* a commercial driver has negative comments about RVers, ya just pull out your copy of the *article* and smile!..:)

On a scale of 1-10, wonder what the pucker factor was on that fiasco. :S - AtleeExplorer IIExactly why should the sign be in pounds? Maybe that stuff isn't taught in school any longer, but I learned in elementary school that 1 ton equals 2,000 pounds. I also learned how to multiply while in elementary school.
It's pretty simple to multiply 6 x 2000.
And by the way, I doubt she knew how many pounds her rig and cargo weighed anyway.

Wouldn't happen if the sign was in pounds as it should be..or did US adopted metric system already? :)
Many years back when Canada started using metric I remember an airline pilots who miscalculated on fuel and run out half way into the trip..
No harm done except for some bruised ego and bent landing gear as even the big jets can glide quite a ways and land safely..
https://youtu.be/WwMqDnBCBwc - Mont_G_JExplorerEvery time she came to a fork in the road she took the wrong one, but I'd bet she was trying the best she could. Often times, a person that doesn't receive the proper training, don't know what they don't know. To her credit, she wasn't sitting home on her butt living off the tax payers.
- Tango__AE7UIExplorerI doubt she'll be driving big rigs or anything for quite some time after this.
How did she pass the CDL? - wa8yxmExplorer IIISaid the American. 2,000 pounds per ton, six tons 12,000 pounds
Said the any other country man, 2,200 pounds per ton six tones 13200 pounds
Said the cheap lawyer "How many do you want it to be" (Song Cheap Lawyer by Frank Hayes)
Said far too many people some of whom want to be VIP's.. I do not know that math stuff is too hard. - free_radicalExplorer

https://youtu.be/WwMqDnBCBwc - RedRollingRoadbExplorer44+ years in a truck and have done some stupid things, but never did anything nearly as stupid as that.
Report that I saw said she also had a 17 year old cousin with her. It her carrier didn't give her permission that is a Federal charge also. Their was so much stupidity in all of this it is baffling.
She must have got her license out of a box of Cracker Jacks. "Yesterday I couldn't drive a truck, today I are one."
