Always been my contention that anyone driving any RV on the highway (Motor home, 5er, TT or anyone pulling recreational doubles)need to pass not only a written test but a skills test driving their vehicle combination or they don't get a license to drive it.
Real simple.
Just like I had to do to get my Class A commercial license.
Additionally, there should be a physical requirement as well, again, just like my Class A. You cannot pass the physical, no license.
You (and I) don't need grandpa Zog motoring down the road in a MoHo when they cannot see or hear and have reaction times like a turtle...
(Rhagfo) I agree 100% with this I have seen way too many physically impaired drivers of RV's. As to reaction times, heck way too many drivers in general don't have good reaction times.
I'm all in favor of DOT regulation and licensing of recreational vehicle drivers, here in the states and Canada. Always have been.
(Rhagfo) Many states require license endorsements for motorcycles, which are small and light. Guess they don't have great lobbyist!
Just because you have the bucks to buy a Tiffin or a Newmat or a Prevost, don't mean you have the skills or commmon sense to drive it on public roads and put other's lives in danger.
(Rhagfo)Usually the bigger the RV the less skilled at driving the owner is.
Ar some point regulations and licensing will be implemented, only a matter of time.
(Rhagfo) Don't hold your breath, as the RV industry has strong Lobbyist.
