- FizzExplorerYou can be sure once it was secured that trailer was escorted all the way.

IMO, that would have been unsafe also if a person was splitting hairs. It would have been safer, but not safe. Thinking it's the old "do as I say, not as I do" for that providence. - John_JoeyExplorer

- pnicholsExplorer IIl agree ... the way to tow a boat showing in the OP's link was unbelievable on a whole bunch of levels!
Here's a couple photos of correct ways to tow a boat on RV trips :B : - CavemanCharlieExplorer IIIHow in the hell did he ever get it up on there ????? It doesn't look like he floated it on so someone with a crane must have lifted it for him. I wonder if they were the ones that called the police.
- myredracerExplorer IICool! Thx for posting!! Been a dull day on the internet so far.
This was in Abbotsford BC, a rural suburb close to us. Sad to see that we have fellow Canadians like that with poo for brains. That's a large-ish yacht and we don't have a large enough lake nearby for a boat like that and nearest ocean water is 20+ miles away. Wonder how far he was planning on going? Would have been fun to watch him get it balanced, stabilized and strapped down.

That applies to the police too - and the story does NOT tell us the additional surrounding circumstances. Were they bombing down Hwy 1 at 100 KPH, or were they going a kilometer between the repair shop and the Fraser river to launch it? In my opinion, one of those calls for a fine and the other calls for some leeway.
I have friends who live in Abbotsford, BC, and government overreach is a real problem. Seeing the opportunity to levy a large fine precludes any sort of flexibility. - MommaluExplorerI chuckled at the spare. Can't imagine jacking up one side to replace a tire, adding more stress to pallets held by duct tape with a big load on them sounds a little dicey.

Sorry, but the statement "8 hours later, no one bothered them", sounded like a tacit agreement with the way they went about it. And the post overall appears to say that you can do such things and successfully get away with it, ergo, not necessarily a bad idea.fj12ryder wrote:

No lights, probably no brakes since it sounds like they had no trailer pig tail hooked up. No sense.fj12ryder wrote:

So are you saying because they made it without issue it wasn't stupid in the first place? A successful outcome doesn't make it less stupid. And a perfect example of why there have to be regulations in the first place. People have brains, but often refuse to use them.

I live in FL and sold an old raggedy 30' bow rider boat to a few guys in TN. They drove down, slapped a few tires on her and drove off, back up the interstate all the way home. Texted me when they got there to tell me they made it safely (I didn't know them at all). No lights, no spare tire, no license plate, no bearing check or greasing...just gone. 8 hours later, no one bothered them.
No lights is not good but no spare, no plate, no grease who cares.
Let me check...
Oh yeah, just what I thought...I never did say it was acceptable or made sense or wasn't a dumb idea. All I did was convey a story related to a personal experience that fit the narrative of the thread. They knew full well what they were coming to get and the condition it was in. Don't make suggestions or accusations that aren't there in first place. - WTP-GCExplorer
