when you investigate the ACA be sure to look at all of the costs...hidden and otherwise. a buddy who voluntarily dropped his health insurance 3-years ago (before he discovered he was diabetic and nearly went permanently blind from it) because, while he could afford the premium, he never got to use it with the $3000 deductible. now 3-years later here comes the ACA. the good news is his pre-existing condition is covered but the policy he can now afford comes with a $5000 deductible. yeah, the monthly premium is half what it used to be but his out-of-pocket costs just skyrocketed.
it's like comparing the cost of an item you want to buy. should I buy retail or online? you just can't look at the actual cost of the item. you have to add in the cost of shipping vs. sales tax or is their sales tax on top of shipping. and what happens if I have to return it..more shipping charges??
