We retired at 47, about two months ago. It would have been 45 but we had to wait for the ACA to kick in. I have pre-existing conditions that insurance companies didn't want to cover. We had a choice of COBRA or the ACA. COBRA was about $700 more per month and there was no max out of pocket. It was also regional only, no nationwide coverage. We do not get subsidies under ACA but the amount we save monthly almost covers our max out of pocket amount. So, while we now have a $1500 deductible, we are actually saving a lot of money through much lower premiums. Someday has finally arrived - we are now doing the things we swore we would do - someday.
