I am amazed at all the people who retire with defined pension plans and fully paid medical coverage. When this question is asked 10 years from now the answers will be totally different. These perks aren't offered anymore at least in the real work force--the private sector(non union) and excluding military duty for our country. Also seems like most did not raise kids.
It will be different in five years. When ACA hits its stride, there won't be any fully paid medical coverage outside of medicaid.
Huh?
Say what?
I retired in 1998.
I got to pay (serious $) out-of-pocket to continue on my employer's (municipal employee) medical plan until eligible for medicare. The medical perks for folks on the same job have gotten better, not worse!
(Unless the city of Detroit is/was your employer)
Part 2.
Opinions are like elbows - everybody has one or two. Helps to preface with "IMO" or "IMHO" unless you have a great crystal ball..:R
Will it be different in five years "when ACA hits its stride"?
Check back in 5 years.
(IMO) At least hospital ERs won't be shutting down, cause they're deep in the red - and I won't be subsidizing other people's ER visits..:C
