How to carry a motorcycle/scooter on Class B?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to carry my Honda Helix scooter on my 1982 Dodge Xplorer 228 camper van.
I would prefer to carry it on the front because the rear of the van is already extended several feet and it would have trouble backing out from an incline (like a driveway) and hit the road.

The van is a 1982 Dodge Ram B350 that was extended and converted into a motorhome by the Xplorer company.
GAWR Front: 3600 LB
GAWR Rear: 5360 LB

The scooter weighs 350 lbs dry and has a wheelbase of 64 inches.

I've messaged the experts at etrailer.com and they say that they don't make a hitch receiver for the front of my van. :?
But there's got to be something I can do right? Maybe one of the rear hitches will fit on the front? Maybe it can be modified somehow? Is there something I'm overlooking as an option?
Any advice or tips on how to figure this out is greatly appreciated.
  • fj12ryder Yes I've checked Craigslist. I've never heard of Swap and Shop, I'll give it a try. You're right, if I could find a good used trailer for $350 that's licensed that would be the way to go.
I see that you're also from Missouri. I'm from Kansas City. I'm searching for the local Shoreland'r you're talking about and can't find it. Do you have a link?
    Thanks.
  • Registration shouldn't be too hard; just bring the paperwork they send and some money to the DMV.

48" is awfully short compared to your scooter's wheelbase. It's going to be none to simple to modify that trailer, I suspect; you'd have to extend the tongue to keep the front wheel from being close to on top of the hitch. One of the 4x8 kits would be a better base to start from, in my opinion.

My guess--nothing more, mind you--is that the tires and maybe bearings would mainly be the things to upgrade for higher speed use. Northern Tool won't be much if any help in the process, for understandable concerns over liability; they'll probably just say they don't recommend any such modifications and doing so may void your warranty and such like things.

My "E" is the first letter of my last name. I'd guess Doug's is as well, but I can't say for sure. We aren't related (so far as I know).

Here's the link to the trailer, it's in Parkville: Facebook Trailer

You may have to sign into Facebook to see the link, I don't know about that part of it.
  • fj12ryder Thanks for the link.
I had to join the group and now I'm awaiting to get approved by the administrators.
