Another possibility is that that vent pipe has dropped out of the roof vent.
We had a obnoxious odor in our bathroom all the time, from when the TT was new. While doing a cabinet mod and relocating the vent pipe, I discovered that it did not go right up into the roof vent. I pushed the pipe back up into the roof vent and secured it in place. I couldn't get the pipe into the tank to move up or down but secured that in place too. NO more smell...
Whether you use chemicals or not and whether the tank is 1/2 full or 100% full, you shouldn't have a smell like that and something has to be wrong. Could easily be the AAV - inexpensive to replace and can be faulty even after a few months or from new.
I'm also against putting bleach into the tank(s), besides you shouldn't need to if everything is working properly.
