I towed for our jeep for years w/out a supplemental brake system - my only fear was the jeep breaking away and free-wheeling in to something or someone....i don't care about the jeep, but i don't want to kill anyone....i used grade 70 "safety" chains, fashioned in 6 different locations...i NEVER had an issue.
I picked up a brake buddy for 400 bucks (you can pick them up cheaper) on craigslist - and i wired the break-away features....imo I've done ALL i can to limit my liability and keep folks safe....and thats the ONLY reason i have the brake buddy. The coach, nor my pick up truck, need the brake buddy when pulling the jeep...neither (primary mover) knows the jeep is even back there & the jeep doesnt push the truck or the coach when we come to a stop.
