How will the abolishment of Medicare affect your RVing?

Medicare is famous for putting almost all of its budget into actual healthcare, with administrative costs just a tiny fraction of private insurance companies' costs.

Now that it is going to be privatised, and costs passed onto consumers, people over 65 can plan on paying double or triple what younger people pay for Obamacare. (Trump now says he will preserve Obamacare.)

How will this affect your budget? Will you be able to keep RVing? Will this change the RVing lifestyle nationwide?

I wonder if RVing will become something only younger people with mobile jobs can afford to do, and retirees will be priced out of the market. I would not like to see that.

Edited to add:

This thread has become rancorous, with people making a lot of accusations and extremist political claims and name-calling. I don't want that.

Just to clarify (and calm people down), we are not talking about campaign promises and tv news.

The Republican platform for 2016 says they will privatize Medicare, pass the increased costs onto seniors, and raise the Medicare age. I do not have a crystal ball. I do not know whether the new Congress will keep this pledge. But a wise person would plan for the possibility that Republicans will do what they believe their voters voted for. So, what are you planning?

I would like this thread to stick to how this affects RVing -- the industry, the RV community, and individual people here. As I have said repeatedly.
  • Post links. If I made any attempt to modify aca which is what is needed it would probably be the very things that Trump is suggesting. Keep the kids on parents insurance until x age. Cover pre existing conditions, allow across state lines, pay drug companies only what they charge others not full price, let people easily shop other countries, overall get rid of lobbyist influence and go for a competitive approach. The way we burn money all over the world we should take care of USA citizens. Get it out of the political arena make viable for all of us. No more arguing politicaly.
  • I feel the happiest and least-stressed when camping. I plan to camp more than ever before ;-)
  • There is NO WAY that anyone will EVER abolish Medicare. Same for Social Security. Don't buy into the scare tactics.
  • Paul Ryan wants Trump to abolish Medicare. Says it is going broke anyway.

    Incidentally,
New Zealand pays a tenth as much for drugs as Canada and US
All because we can't get our act together and purchase drugs as a country!
New Zealand prices are staggeringly low and 100 per cent of their population is covered. New Zealand is not afraid of being tough but fair…They flex their single payer muscles so the pharmaceutical industry behaves

    I've got news for you:
Medicare is actually administered by a private company RIGHT NOW.
The paperwork I get does NOT come from the SSA or any other actual government agency but from a semi-private company that actually does the day to day work. You can rest assured that they are not working for free.

Your post is pure speculation but I object to it being here at all. Your RVing tie in is just a front for starting yet another political arguement and this is NOT the place.
  • This won't make it past page 1. Medicare isn't going anywhere.
  • No one knows for sure what's going to happen. Paul Ryan and some of his colleagues would like to privatize SSI and Medicare. Trump has recently stated that contrary to what he said in his campaign speeches that he will probably leave some of Obama care intact. Right now it's all speculation and it's still a little over 2 months before he's sworn in. It will take awhile to sort thru all the legal aspects of what they can and can't do with programs.
Until then it's camping as usual for us. I do think older people are more concerned about what will happen with SSI and Medicare as well as the health insurance industry as many are on fixed or slow rising incomes.
If I were considering a major purchase like a $60-80,000 RV I would put it on hold till next summer at least so I could get an idea of where this new administration is headed. Many things are said and promised during campaigns. Many of those never come to fruition.

Book some camping trips and hope for the best.
  • Where are you getting this info that medicare will be abolished? Trump wants to replace Obama's affordable care act which is not the very popular and long term medicare but he's already backing off a little on that. Possibly he said he would like to abolish medicare but I doubt that will happen. Possibly it will be modified. Way too early to worry about it.
