Non-sense! You are not going to be hurt anywhere in the general U.S.A.. Yes people carry guns, but they are not out to shoot any one, it is a protection thing against the wild nuts that inhabit every country on the Earth.
Most likely you will meet fine people and make friends with folks that like the same things you do. I have been camping for 50 years and one time was it necessary to get my firearm out to protect ourselves from a drunken camper. He did not make the fatal move and all ended well and peacefully. He never saw my gun, we simply convinced him he had reached my limit. He left on his own.
