I have had this happen with my old standard dial meter, they read the 1000's digit wrong and billed us for an extra 1000KWh. I called and first they insulted me telling me I didn't know how to read it. Then they said just to wait until the next read and it will adjust out. DO NOT LET THEM DO THIS! Because of the massive penalty of being in higher tiers, you will not get the same amount back by letting them bill more usage at the low tier rate. I gave them the current reading, and told them what I estimated the reading to be back on the day they read it, and asked them to adjust my bill based on that number. They did but instead of an apology I got a stern warning that if I was misleading them and did not know how to read the meter that it would show up next month.
