My meter is still of the old spinning wheel type. We read it once a month ourselves and write the numbers down to mail it in. The bill is always a month behind this way.
My brother on the farm has some sort of meter where the company must come out once a month read it, unlock something and push a button, then get a second reading. I don't know what that thing is.
My water meter reading is done by us too. We've been bitten that way because we got a huge bill one month. When looking for the problem we found there was a leak in the well pit and the water was soaking away into the ground. Because it was after the meter we were responsible for it.
