Hunting and fishing is a big part of my reason for adopting a full-time mobile lifestyle. I’m currently settled in Sierra Vista AZ. My plan this year is to winter in southeastern AZ hunting quail through February, then enjoy stocked trout fishing in one of the local reservoir lakes through March or April as well as generally exploring the state with my Caravan, as well as mineral exploration. In April or May I’ll start heading north, this year I’m hoping to land a summer job as a geologist in one of the national parks. The early fall will find me in Montana or South Dakota. I plan to arrive a month before the regular hunting season so that I can scout the area. Come mid-November I’ll head back to Sierra Vista, AZ.
That’s my plan for the coming year. Last year I’d planned to spend the summer in northern Wisconsin fishing (I even bought a Porta-bote folding boat) followed by fall grouse hunting. However, I was seduced into spending the fall/winter in Houston attempting to sell an oil prospect I have. Unfortunately, my prospect sale tanked along with the oil market. That disaster was followed by the discovery that the bad valve lifter I’d heard clattering in my engine was actually a failing rod bearing:E. Replacing the engine (in between horrific thunderstorms) consumed my traveling funds and kept me in Texas through the spring and summer. So much for the best laid schemes of mice and men…
The good news from the past year’s troubles is that my RV now has a completely rebuilt engine to continue my journeys:B.
