Hunting and Fishing

Does anybody use their rv as a home base to hunt or fish from while traveling across the country? Looks like it would be a great way to go where the hunting and fishing is good.

  • Several years ago, when we had our Pop-Up, I belonged to a church. Once a year one of the men in the church sponsored a fishing trip. We all chipped in equally to pay for the camp sites and for food, no matter how many sites we ended up with.

Those that had a camper would share bed space with someone who did not have a camper. And someone who had a boat would share fishing privilages from the boat for someone who did not have a boat. It turned out to be almost 50/50. Two per camper and two for a boat. This special outing was JUST for the men. No kids and no females. It ran for 3 days, ending Saturday night, so Sunday morning everyone would be back in church.

All the fish we caught, we ate that night. Everyone helped clean, prepare, cook, and clean up afterwards. We'd have some songs around the camper after supper. It was a great experience!

One of the men brought their station wagon and all the food was kept in it. There were packages of chips, lunch meats, drinks, fruits, and deserts. Everyone made their own breakfast in the morning and fixed a lunch bag they took with them on the boats.

It really was 3 days of fun! I went 2 years in a row.
  • The downside of traveling from state to state and just fishing, the non resident fees are very high in some states. Same with finding public places to hunt as you really don't know the state you're in.
Some states require a log book to record each fish and how/where you caught it. A different license for each type of fish also...fresh water vs salt water.
