I-95 in Florida closed

Travelers be aware, I-95, in the Palm coast area, south of Jax is closed and may be closed for days. there was a fatal accident involving 2 18 wheelers and one was a gas tanker, which exploded and spread fire across the interstate. The road has melted and FHP says it will remain closed until the roadbed is rebuilt.....This was just reported on our noon news as a breaking story.

  • We have had a couple of those on I-95 here in the DC area and they get the road back open in a matter of hours.
  • Road crews are usually very fast at repairing roads after something like that. They do not like closing the road for any length of time. Causes too much backup of traffic.

Usually they gt the equipment in there as soon as the LEOs and investigators clear the scene and start work right away. Most of the time the contractor gets a bonus based on how quickly the job is done. If I am not mistaken the vehicle insurance companies pick up the tab for most, if not all of it so they want it done fast as well.

I really hate when things like this happen so close around the holidays. At least two families lives have changed now and each Christmas forward. May they find peace and comfort in the days and weeks to come.

According to the Orlando Centinel, I-95 is already opened up after the accident.
According to the FHP, the southbound lane is open with 2 way traffic and the northbound side is closed indefinitely. Check with the FHP, not the newspaper.
