I can't decide between a Hensley or ProPride Hitch.

We've decided that for us, its worth spending the extra dollars for either a Hensely or ProPride hitch. I know that are both basically using the same Hensley design and that the ProPride has a few upgrades, such as an adjustable hitch bar. Where as the Hensley uses fixed hitch bars that are available in 2" increments up to 8". Is that a huge issue?

My truck seems rather high, I measured 26" from the ground to the top inside edge of the hitch mount (the square bracket that the hitch slides into) and that has me leaning towards ProPride.

I'm planning to tow with my 2018 RAM 2500 CTD and we hope to purchase a Grand Design 2600.
  • Once upon a time I towed a 36' 11K GVW TT with a Hensley.THe HEnsley worked like a champ. PP did not exist when I purchased my Hensley.
In terms of performance I think the HA and PP hitches are equal.
I sort of preferred the HA stinger simply because it was a bit smaller and lighter vs. the adjustable PP stinger. Adjustment is a nice feature if you need it however 90% of users do not need to adjust the stinger height once the trailer is set up.
  • Before I bought a 5th wheel, I had a Pro pride 3P hitch. They work as advertised. They're expensive but I had a real bad sway problem and almost rolled which is why I bought it. If I still had a Travel Trailer, I'd still be using the hitch. The resale on them wasn't as good as I had hoped though so keep that in mind. The best I could get was a third of what I paid for it new after 4 years of use. The issues are if you have to take your camper to the dealer, you have to leave the stinger so they can move it. The other issue is it can be finicky when hitching/unhitching if the trailer and tow vehicle aren't aligned really good. (Like when the camper is level but the truck is on an angle)
  • About eight years ago I was looking hard at both and was thinking the newer version.
I decided to try a weight distribution with sway control, first.
If it didn't work for me, then I would get the propride.
I have been pleased with the weight distribution with sway control and have stayed with it.
    Hope this is helpful!
