- dodge_guyExplorer III have the Dual Cam and haven't had an issue since getting my hitch dialed in and setup properly. sometimes, if Im not paying attention, a truck will be right along side me. that's when I feel the push and then as it passes I feel the pull. I have no sway and it is rock solid. a good sway control system does wonders. but it has to be, as with any hitch, setup properly!
- JframpeyExplorerYES, I have a propride hitch and only feel a slight nudge, truck and trailer move away from the passing vehicle slightly, no weaving back and forth.
- horton333ExplorerI find that an SUV, travelling at high speed, has more effect then a truck. I expect that is because it is common for an SUV to be going significantly faster than most any truck (which are electronically speed limited here). The speeds would impact both the air wave size and how suddenly the effect hits my trailer.
- atreisExplorerIt decreased the push from passing trucks, but nothing will eliminate that.
Some interesting things to notice: The relative effects from different shape trucks at a given speed vs. other shapes (due to more aerodynamic trucks having smaller bow waves), and the difference between similar trucks at different speeds. From observation, at a given speed I think large Class A motorhomes have larger bow waves than semis, and rental moving trucks with the big flat-fronted cab-over have the worst. - JackfateExplorer

When I used an HA with my 2010 F150 towing a 31' 7300lb TT, the TT still waggled. But the truck didn't. Passing semi's side by side the truck was rock solid. I could still see my TT moving back and forth in the rear view mirror.
Now here's the interesting part. I moved up to a 2500 truck with a 169"WB which is 25" longer than the F150 I was using and the 2500 truck was rock solid without using the HA. I'm guessing it's the proverbial tail wagging the dog thing.
Getting an HA is obviously cheaper than up sizing trucks.
I've found the same thing tv weight AND WB length (along with a hd suspension)make a great difference . I didn't like my wd hitch on my 1500 but on my 3500 it works very well - notevenExplorer IIIWhen semi bow wave reaches rear of trailer, tow vehicle zigs a bit right.
When bow wave passes trailer axles, zag to left begins.
When bow wave reaches front of trailer/back of tow vehicle little zig right again.
This motion is ocillation at the hitch so I call it "sway" even though it is not severe.
As you know depending on wind, road, and differential speed of the overtake you may or may not have to put in some rudder this way and that... it is more of an annoyance and is tiring on long days on the I road.
I would prefer the normal "single push" you get as the bow wave reaches you.

YES - SprinklerManExplorerI had an equalizer hitch on my rv ,it was good . I found a used propride and it is GREAT , when a truck passes I get a push but no sway at all . I pull a 30 ft 10k trailer with a V10 excursion . But I did save the equalizer hitch to put on my 10K equipment trailer . Why ? My hitches are rated for 500 lbs tongue weight and 1000 lbs tongue weight with a WDH , depending on what I am hauling it makes a big difference . And I wont get a DOT violation
- peirekExplorerI have the Hensley. And a big yes to stopping the sway. I have also noticed, as pointed out by others, with the truck/trailer locked together the push is much less impactful. Driving on 2-lanes with trucks passing at 70+MPH is not a concern at all.
Best investment I have ever made for my rig - well except for the truck and trailer ;)
