But half seriously, Elon Musk proposed a single site 100x100 miles solar in an empty part of a state like Arizona and it will generate enough power for the entire nation.
The problem with that plan is that the power couldn't be distributed to the entire nation. The power grid isn't that interconnected, plus resistance loses would reduce the power getting to the northeast where it's needed. Apparently we use all the fuel oil in the world to heat our houses increasing the diesel prices in tropical Montana.
How will you rate that problem: Not doable at all or impossible? Will take time and huge investment? A must do regardless of cost?
Remember how our inter-state freeway system was built?
Even without the consideration of a single-site solar energy source, I kept on hearing since time immemorial that "urgent" issue of interconnecting our power grid to solve our country's uneven regional supply-and-demand situation. That sure will be the best time to do this projects together.
