I had a craving, but got over it!

My existing truck is in my signature is still working perfectly and has 145,000 on it and it tows my 5th wheel perfectly and averages 12.0 mpg when towing, but...

The other day I had a craving for a new truck. I went to GMC's web site and the site would not work with Firefox or IE. Maybe the problem is on my end, but it wouldn't let me build a truck. Then I got to thinking about DEF that I don't need or use now, not to mention a payment (big one or monthly as the case may be) that I don't have now.

I lost the urge quickly. Whew!

I can remember when a new pick up cost nearly as much as a used car.

now a new pick up costs nearly as much as a SEMI tractor.

We stopped by the local dealer this weekend to kick some tires. While she was talking with the salesmen I took a walk to check out their trucks.

Many, many F-150 and up on the lot. Not a single truck on the lot was less than $40K. Not a single F-150 out of about 30 was a Max Tow or Max Payload. They were all $40K+ grocery getters.

The cheapest SD I found was $58K MSRP. Many were knocking on $70K.

    CRAZY!!!!!

X2 - Why I ended up with a new truck...because I couldn't find a good used truck for a reasonable price. All the ones under 26K were beat up pretty good. These things hold their resale value. I plan on keeping mine as long as possible. I don't see myself needing a bigger trailer for a long time anyway.
  • Suck the life out of it. I dont know all the issues with GM diesels but I believe you are past the injector issue years. Run it as long as the repairs are minor and pay attention to any telltale signs of bigger problems so you can dump it will it's still running.

  • There's nothing more I'd rather have than a new rig. Trying to find someone that will make the payments for me is the problem !!!! :B

My last new rig was 1979, haven't purchased new since.
  • 'Sticker Shock' will quickly deflate the need for a new vehicle.

Especially when the current one is working fine. :)
