I Need Your Help!

Several who live in our neighborhood who own RV's have approached our homeowners association about changing our covenants to allow RV's. (not just for a few days) The association board is open to the idea providing we can show where other neighborhoods allow them to remain on the property.

If you live in an association that allows RV's to remain on your property, can you please email/send me a copy of your association rules? Email: dtaylor5252@gmail.com Thank you in advance

  • Thank you to all who have sent emails. These are exactly the things we are looking for. More would be greatly appreciated. The more variety I can get, the better
  • Hi,

The H0A for 320 Forestway Cir, Altamonte Springs, FL actually has a storage yard where the charge is $25 per month.
  • We live in an area where 75% of people own a boat and most are trailered. RV's are a small minority. Because of the preponderance of boat trailers in driveways, there haven't been any restrictions. One neighbor, who's a commercial fisherman, brings his 60' boat home on a monster 3-axle trailer and leaves it alongside the house for 4 months. The roof of the boat's bridge is higher that his house roof!

We modified our ramblers roof overhang to allow our 102" wide RV to fit down the side of the garage. When fully "tucked away" only about 7' was forward of the corner of the garage. Never had a problem.

Unfortunately, when "tucked", we couldn't open the house door to the RV (the garage gutter was too low) so it spent quite a lot of time backed out far enough to allow access, resulting in about 27 of its 32 feet out beyond the corner of the house. Some complaints, but mo sanctions. The immediate neighbors are very pleased that we're selling it!
  • You are going to be hard pressed to find copies of HOA rules for RV storage.

Many do not address the issue.
    However most will prohibit same.

Suggest you take you camera along and take some pics of "good neighbor" RV storage - which is usually on the side - or rear of a home.

Note: *NO* pics of RVs in driveways! Guaranteed to be a "deal breaker".
Yes - there are cities that allow that - but I don't want to live next to the guy with his 5th or MH stored in his driveway.
IMO - your HOA folks would cringe at that!..:(

The pics worked for me, when the city I live in was considering passing an ordinance prohibiting RV storage - period!
Also - left a flyer about same at each home where an RV was stored.

*LOTS* of RV owners showed up at the next city council meeting.
    No ordinance, LOL.

The side storage is usually a certain number of feet back from the front property line (sidewalk or street) - or as others have indicated, when next to the house - behind the front plane of the house.

    Good luck.

    ~
  • I don't live in an HOA, but our county says, "the RV, or boat etc. must be behind the plane of the front wall of the house, and hidden from view on three sides.
  • 7ofus, do you have a copy of you covenants that you could send. This is the kind of things we are looking for.
  • Our covenants specify that the RV (or boat or trailer) has to be behind the house. This has worked well to generally keep them out of sight (you can still see ours and a few others from the street at an angle) and still allow them on the property.

This is the reason that we are limited to a 33'6" motorhome. Any longer and it would stick out from behind the house.
  • I once lived in a homeowners ruled and controlled life style, with no mention of Rv's being parked on properties so I guess that made it legal. Couldn't park on the street long term with anything however.
  • We live in a small housing development (50) homes. The Home Owners Association does have covenants but I no longer have a copy (35 year resident). Anyway...the prohibition on parked RV's is simply not enforced by the Association. So many residents have them and keep them up that it has never been an issue.
