I lost my husband last year to brain cancer.We had a 2010 Carriage Cameo that was to be our last rv as we looked long and hard for it and it was the "perfect one" for us. Unfortunately we were only able to use it a little over a year and a half. I wanted to sell it and buy a small class C that I could handle but he would not even discuss it. If he couldn't have the Carriage he wanted nothing. I was lucky to be able to sell the rv and truck to the same person who planned to full time in it. I miss camping but due to spinal fusion and double knee replacement that didn't do well i'm not sure if I'm physically able to handle the set up. My late hubby said that due to my bad back he didn't think I could handle the heavy power cord or even the sewer hookup. Anyone have any ideas to how I could get back into camping??

Rent a Class C and give it a try, the only way you will know.Good Luck

I would try a Class B for a rental and see how that works out for you. When I was driving school bus we had a woman who had a similar experience with a new 5th. wheel & truck. After her husband died she bought a 33'Class A to continue travelling alone at age 73. I have had the spinal fusion also and use a walker to hook up the sewer and water/electric. It works and I still enjoy getting out. I .appreciate having large tanks so I don't have to dump very often

X2 on the rent a Class C. I wouldn't buy one until you've rented one and you are confident that you can continue to camp.I travel in a 21' TT and am able to do all the lifting and putting on the sway bars, etc and I ain't no spring chicken either! I think you could handle a Class B. We met a retired female judge who traveled with her small dog in a Class B. Maybe go to a dealership and ask the salesperson to help you see if you can set it up.

Dianne, you and I had talked sometime ago as my husband also died from the same brain cancer. I'm sorry for your journey! I also sold my trailer and tow vehicle, but luckily I found me a new camping partner! After 4 years of widowhood, I found someone who loves to camp as much as I do - we got married a few weeks ago and are now looking for a new rig!

Good luck with your decisions - it's all tough... But as you know, life goes on, it's just very different.

I do miss rving,but I miss our Carriage,we looked long and hard to find the perfect one:fireplace,island in the kitchen,flat screen TV's,double door fridge,2 closets in the bedroom,pull out pantry,etc,etc after that anything else probably won't make me happy. In looking at floor plans they also don't have the room for a litter box for my 18 lb.Maine Coon,which is a must!

Do your research and do what pleases you. But whatever you decide about your future, don't give up on rving. You sound like you really want to get back out. Good luck.

I too am sorry to hear about your loss. It really hits home, not for me, but a friend recently lost his wife. We have chatted about things, life, etc., one thing he said was he would like to go somewhere, but didn't have anyone to go with. I told him, we would fix that and would go somewhere soon. I say give the suggestions a try. I remember the first time I took a trailer out, didn't know if I could back it in a site, but figured someone could help.

No,no rv rentals in my area. I Googled Cruise America and they have 3 locations in NC: Charlotte,Durham and Greensboro,none too near me.

We never went to the Carriage company,we bought ours in Florida, I think Leesburg? Yes,you met an 84 year old single female,but she may have years of camping experience under her belt. I,on the other hand was spoiled,I did the inside work and he did the outside,so totally clueless how it all works and I liked it that way! The last place we camped was at a campground near Duke when he had his surgery and my daughter and I did have to do the dump once but a friend came and broke it down,cleaned up and drove it back home for us.

NOW, I read your last post!:S You mean there are no RV rentals in the New Bern area? What about down towards J-ville or Cherry Point? If you ever get in the Lakeland, FL area, send me a quick note.

Thanks for the condolances and good advice,I'm still mulling it all over. There isn't anywhere near me that rents rv's and I don't want to put the money out for a new one,I may live a long time yet so have to be careful with my money. I wouldn't trust a used one unless I took a friend with me that would know what to look for. I guess I need to find a single guy,who likes cats that would like a travel partner. I'm a pretty good cook and good conversationalist. ;-)

So many had such great advice! I have nothing to add except go for it! In the short time we've been RV-ing, we have met the world of great people. There are some really sexy Class B's & C's out there, and one of them has your name on it.
