I really should know better.......

For the last few years we have kept our trailer on a seasonal site at a well run campground. It’s been convenient and has tempted me into going to the camper on holiday weekends. Something I never would have done when we were pulling the trailer around all the time.

So, not a rant per say, but I just thought I would mention my observations.

The crowds were big…I have never seen so many boats on the Lake of the Ozarks and Truman Lake. Although, I saw no incidents. Just a lot of fine Americans enjoying themselves.

The campground I’m in has a handful of temporary spots near where our seasonal spot is. Usually everyone that occupies these spots is great…just having a good time and enjoying life. This weekend the new owners of the campground maxed out every spot to capture as much revenue as possible. Fine…the new owners seems like great people. They handled any issues that came up like seasoned pros. Calm, proactive, assertive. Awesome!

On Labor Day weekend, Cousin Eddie was parked across from us. The 39 ft. gas Winnebago pulling an 18 ft cargo trailer. Now, mind you, the campground only has 30 amp hookups. The temp is 95 and humid and everyone is running their a/c full blast in a campground that’s at or above capacity.

Apparently Cousin Eddie brings the trailer because he can’t bear to leave anything at home. The trailer opens like a jack in the box. He has the following items plugged in outside of his rig and into the post.

Theatre size popcorn machine
Electric Deep Fryer
Electric Smoker
Electric Ice maker
Full X Box type game center
Multiply Fans
Strings of assorted lights
Sound system

I’m sure I forgot some other stuff. Oh, and he is running his 50 amp basement A/C (are those basement A/C’s on the big coaches actually 50 amp only?) and all this other junk on the 30 amp plug.

Needless to say, soon the electrical box blows out and is on fire. Electric company comes, switches it out. A few hours later, the entire transformer blows. Electric company comes out and replaces that. All the while everyone has no A/C and their fridges are not running (unless they switched it over to LP).

Anyway, I just wish that some people were a bit more aware of their surroundings. This guy just seemed to have no clue that his selfish ways were affecting many other people and I’m glad that I will never have to see him again.

Mini rant off
