I remember when----???? (camping version).

I have a buddy that says we go "trailer" NOT "camping". I have no desire to start an arguement over what "camping" IS.

However, after reading the post about needing bigger tow vehicles, bigger trailers, more gadgets, etc... I do think it would be interesting (it's -2 outside) to hear some comparisions between family travelling (rv style) today as compared to when many of us were kids. It does not need to get condesending, the comment can come to a conclusion, or be left open ended. Kinda like this----

I remember when-- families had 6 kids, and they all fit in a two door pickup, and pulled/slept in a 20' trailer.

I remmber when-- batteries maintenence meant making sure all flashlights/radios, etc... all fit the same size battery so you only had to pack one size.

I remember when-- awnings had poles and ropes to trip over.
  • I remember camping in a wet drenching rain with nothing but a Poncho and spending two on four off I do not care for tent or open ground camping hiking or insects since my Uncle sent me to the Army.

Heh, i remember bike touring in the rain, getting up in the morning and putting my wet clothes back on!

I also remember car camping as a teenager, pitching my tent in a low spot, waking up to rain... and then to a flooded tent floor.
  • my parents never camped but as a young teen my 2 buddies and i would go camping and being from oregon we never had to go far to get into the woods. then when i married and we had kids i wanted to teach my daugthers the camping fun so they camped before they could walk. now the wife and i are divorced but we both still camp with our new partners and my daugthers camp with there kids. so i think its a great family tradition
  • THEN:
Being born and reared in Los Angeles, never camped, just a city boy.

Marrying a country girl from Washington State that camped her whole life before me, I had to make the concession of our first married joint income tax refund check to purchase an Apache tent trailer.

Ran the gamut from slide in to Class C and Class A.

    NOW:
Pulling into an Elks lodge, hooking up power and water, and walking over to the lodge for an adult beverage.
    ;)
