- KA4EBUExplorerWe have had icemakers for years. Different prices and different brands, will never travel in the RV without or stay at our place on the Tennessee River with out it. Ours now is the 99 dollar ice maker from Sams. We saved the 99 dollars by not needing ice and having to drive for it. We fell the freezer bags and coolers for the boat or whenever needed.
- CampinfanExplorer IIIYes
- wbwoodExplorerSometimes we will take the ice out and put it in the freezer.
- AllworthExplorer IIWatch for them to be on sale at Target. Half of CW's price for the same machine; different label.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIII used to use ice cube trays but received an Ice Maker for Free (long story, Just got a very nice E-mail from the person who gave it to me, I do things for her as well)...
As soeone said it does not keep ice frozen all that well, but as it melts the water returns to the water tray so it re-freezes it... And it means I have a bit more freezer room.. Ice production is not much different from the Rubbermaid trays but ... Well, more reliable.. Alas. Keeps my drinks cool. - Kit_CarsonExplorerWe have one we bought at Sam's for $99. I think that is the best money I have spent. Like said before it makes ice but does not keep it frozen. I use gallon size Ziploc bags to store in freezer. I think it makes 26 pounds a day.
- wbwoodExplorerWe enjoy ours. We take it if going somewhere for more than a few days. Makes ice faster than trays in the fridge.
- LOFAT36ExplorerWe have a NEWAIR we bought used last season in Yuma and my wife loves it. Use at home when we're there and 5 months away in the 5er.
- B_O__PlentyExplorer IIWe have one and it works well. Buy the cheapest one you can find. They are all exactly the same except for the name on the oval shaped badge on the front..
B.O. - dhustExplorerOn out 3rd one now, and have loved using them all. The first 2 were Emerson brand.1st one was cheap, and the second one was bought with the idea of replacement parts for the first one when the second one broke (as the plastic tray broke on the first one). The compressor went out in the second one, and the plastic tray was just enough bigger to cause too much drag. Eventually we got a third one. Hoping it lasts more than the 1 year the others did.
I like ice in my tea. I usually leave the ice in the tray, and let it make more when I remove some. There is always enough for 2 drinks, and it makes more. I rarely remove the ice, as I have discovered that you get bigger cubes after some of the ice has melted back into the water, and pre-cooled the water. Thus the first ice cubes are very small.
