I'm a retired salesman

I think that most of the people who post with opinions about sales people do so because they had a bad experience. There are probably many more out there, including my wife and I, who had very positive experiences when they bought their RV's. We just never had any reason or occasion to post about it. (So, Jr. at Century RV, here's a shout out to you.) No matter what, the buyer always has to take responsibility to make a good decision.

Of course we've all seen the really pushy car salesman...
I honestly believe that attitude for the most part has died off.

As far as RV sales I'm a bit surprised at the minor ineptitude of certain parties during the sales process.
The sales people overall I've dealt with seemed honest and had excellent input for the buyer.

Small note**
I find the female RV or car sales person extremely easy to deal with and very upfront!

The dealers that send out a woman to confront a distrusting wife are smart and most likely will be able to cash in on what the husband wants.
My thoughts exclusively.

Well, along that line, I can only say I bought two campers so far, from different dealers. Both of them misrepresented the campers I bought right from the beginning. Of course, I didn't figure it out until AFTER the fact. So far, dealers are batting '0' with this buyer.

In one case Fleetwood manufacturer made it right. In the second case, Lance factory made it right. So, that means, I think, that I was right and the salesman was lying in both cases or the manufacturer would have stayed out of it. Of course, I had both problems documented on my paperwork so the salesman had the lies right there on paper ... but the camper was different than the paperwork. Just a note to show that life science research equipment salesman may be fine to buy equipment from, but too many dissatisfied buyers that are truly documented for it to be a simply disgruntled RV buyer ...

In fact, we've stopped several times over the years to look at a new RV, and felt like road kill when the vultures come out. First thing they ask, "How much can you spend, and can we run a credit report", that's right before telling us we can't sit in an RV without the salesman right there watching us. We understand they might have issues with some lowlife stealing or breaking stuff, but believe me, when we get out of our car, that's now how we present ourselves ...

i think you need to have had more experience with RV salespersons.

i used to be a saleman, for many years.
yet, i can tell you that i found the majority of RV salespersons to be ignorant of what they were selling, few actually were campers or had ever camped, tended to lie quite a bit, made statements that clearly showed they knew very little about RV's and most knew nothing about how RV's work.

In my opinion a person is a person and first we have to treat him as such no matter what his occupation is,
One can be a crook even if he is a banker/writer/tailor/salesman and another can be a honest person at the exact same profession.

No, not all sales people are bad. I was one. Nothing automotive.

Whoever sold the original owner my rig & truck did a good job. Of course the owner was not trying to get champagne on a beer budget either so customers also take some blame trying to get something for nothing.

The toughest customer is the knowledgeable customer, somebody who has done the research before walking onto the lot.

Salesmen, like in most lines of work are employed by companies that set policy. WhenI can walk into one company and get a price then go a few miles down the road & buy the exact same item several thousand dollars cheaper we have a problem. In most cases it is not the salesman that sets the price. So I realize it is the sales person that gets the bad rap. However I am also looking for the best bang for the buck. The sales person alsoo knows if I leave he probably won't see me again. They have to apply some pressure if they are on commission. I don't hold it against them. Like I have mentioned in previos posts. It is a business deal. I treat it that way.

I made my living selling telecom hardware and services for 25 years, so I know how to sell and when someone knows their stuff. I bought a tow dolly from a trailer/RV place. Salesman was the son of the owner, basically grew up on the lot. Tow dolly had "Dexter" axles and he made a big production of that, said the "Dexter" rubber torsion spring axles were the best. Arguably true, but this tow dolly had a plain dropped axle, not a torsion spring axle, and we were standing there looking at it. I pointed this out, got attitude back so I asked if having the "torsion spring axle" made it more expensive than a plain dropped axle, he said "nope, that's the way they come". So I bought it and got out of there before I lost it. He set the tire pressures "right" for me, as soon as I got off the lot and around the corner I dropped them from 50 psi down to 30 psi, which is what the big label on the tongue said they should be at...

The qualities to be a sales person are independent of being knowledgable.

And, their objective is to 'take your money'

Take folks money and give them an 'honest sale' and things are ok.

Take your money AND do something bad, folks are going to get extra angry.

I never expect a salesperson to give me an education about an item that I am interested in buying. The internet will give you the same info that the salesperson can give you. I never go into a dealership planning on showing up a salesperson, either. Vehicles, RVs, Houses, I know what/why I'm interested in an item, and what I want to pay for it. The salesperson is basically there to get the paperwork ready. I make it pretty easy for them, and I think they appreciate it.
