We have had both good and bad experiences with salesmen. Some seem honest and treat their customers as if it is more than just a commission check at the end of the sale and others can't wait to get you to sign the bottom line so you no longer exist. I have worked in the F&I department of an honest car dealership before. Yes, they do exist. The dealership was a family owned and operated GM Dealership for 65years when I worked there (about 17 years ago). I honestly have never heard one customer say they weren't treated fairly there. Kuddos to them! I no longer live in the same area and have made several trades since moving. This is where my good and bad experiences come from. I have walked on 2 different occasions during a final deal because the dealership tried to be sneaky on the final paperwork. Some people would not catch the sneakiness but when I did an questioned it, I was told on one deal it was a mandatory purchase for financing (credit life and extended warranty)....WRONG, it is an optional purchase. On another the paperwork showed my trade payoff to be $4000 more than it really was meaning the dealership was pocketing the extra money. Both occasions we walked and both happened at the same local dealership. We only gave them a second chance because we are small business owners ourself who thrive on local business and the particular dealership had changed ownership. Both occasions we drove about 35 miles down the road and felt we were treated honest and fairly. I know for our business (HVAC), we try desperately to focus on the individual customers needs and satisfaction. Word of mouth and reputation in this small town are what keeps us in operation, puts food on our and our employee's tables. It is more than a job to us, it s a commitment to our customers. Service after the sale should always be a priority to any business. There are honest people out there and we have run across many of them. Don't let the bad apples of the bunch ruin the taste of the good ones.
