I'm looking for a 2004-2006 Dingy Vehicle,

So I was looking at a Ford Escape Hybrid as a a Dingy Vehicle / Toad Vehicle to tow behind an RV. However after some research I'm finding that these suv's have lots of issues!

The MPG of the hybrid was very appealing.
I need an SUV for the festival/camping/vending work I do.

I need to buy used. I was hoping for a 4 wheel drive as I live in the mountains. I can do stick shift.

Recommendations please!

  • We have a 2004 chevy Malibu maxx. auto , 4 wheels down. just have to pull a fuse. its a 4 door with hatch back. lots of storage. around 3400 lbs. we use it till we hit the lottery our wheels fall off.
  • If you can find one, a Chevy HHR makes an excellent toad. Nice efficient small hatchback, good for 4 friends. Lightweight, so its easy to tow. Simple to connect and disconnect, takes us less than a minute either way. They quit making them in 2011, so they are a bit hard to find. our first was a 2006, which we drove (not towed) 90k miles with no trouble. Traded it for a 2011, and expect to drive it for a good bit longer. Behind a Ford Triton gasser, can't even tell its there.

A standard transmission Subaru is tough to beat. The automatic transmission version can not be towed 4 down.
  • Have you checked into Suzuki Grand Vitara's or Chevy Trackers?
They make excellent 4WD, four down, light little tow cars.
