The OP is 100% right in my mind - and my life experience.
If you ever want to get ahead, only buy things you need on credit. Cars, appliances, even things like tires if you must.
We had loads of fun in a couple of 10 to 30 year old RV's with our family and never made a payment on them.
Don't buy stuff like televisions, jet skis or any other toys on time. If you follow this guideline you will find that much sooner in life you will simply buy things with cash because your not giving away all your disposable income to the bank.
I had to learn the hard way but I did learn early enough to make it possible to semi-retire at 50 and even though I never made a ton of money, I'm able to make a pretty good living off investments and a little work.
