I agree to most everything that has been said but one thing to keep in mind......
Even though you have no mortgage on your stick built home does not mean you own it, just don't pay your property taxes and see what happens. :S
No truer statement has been made. Nobody really owns their house and land -- they are simply renting it from their taxing authority.

I went into it with eyes wide open. I knew darn well that if I wanted to enjoy all the benefits of the big city, someone has to pay for it (taxes). Yes, I was in shape to write a check for everything, plus I was the designer and contractor on our house. BTW it cost more than buying a tract house of equal living space. Yes, I own it, but pay for all the benefits I recieve in order to have my house where it is. I also pay fees on my house on wheels. Yes, I could've built out in the middle of nowhere. But, I only prefer to visit those places for a few days at a time. That's the reason my motorhome stays at different lakes, some of the time.
Yes, I complain about a lot of things. But, I know that it's just to get it off my chest (it does no other good to complain).
I have NEVER borrowed money to purchase any of the vehicles that I've owned/own (including 3-1/2 airplanes and my present diesel pusher). It worked for me, but I suspect it might've been better to manage my money some other way. I will never know for sure.
