After a year and a half on gates that is just what we plan to do-heading out just before Memorial day for a few weeks off. We were looking at rotating between a campground gig and working a gate; but the pay and commitment they're looking for is not for us. - wciimExplorerJust wanted to say HI to all! We worked campgrounds for the last 4 years. Now we are working to gate guarding. We have been on the same gate on FM469 for the last 4 months and think we should be here at least another year. We love this job and will never do campgrounds again. One more year, gets our budget/bankaccount where we want it. Then we will gate guard in the winter and play in the summer. It has been dusty on an occasion but not all the time.
All I have to say is since we have to work some of the time WE LOVE THIS JOB! Money is good. From what we are hearing there will be 18 more wells drilled here. Can wait to watch the drilling. We have fiends just south of Cotulla that we trade time off. And it is nice to have someone to go shopping with. - The_TexanExplorer

You are controlling the entrance to either an energy company worksite, or a private ranch. In some situations you just record traffic in and out and in others, you actually have authority to control access. Energy companies, to be politically correct, are the ones that usually prohibit firearms, while most ranchers encourage having, but not openly displaying one. We worked for one of the companies that was very ANTI firearm, they never checked our RV, but If they had tried, we would have just refused and waited for a new gate through the company we worked for. One gate we worked, both the energy company and the rancher owner encouraged we have one readily available.
I just joined, don't under stand what you are guarding,
I always carry firearms in my unit. ( never drugs or liqueur ) of no kind. - GGupExplorerI think you need to do some reading of this thread to find out what you joined. Sound like a Senator that says you must pass the bill before you know what is in it. You might be barking up that same tree and not know what you are guarding and the stance of some companies on guns.
Good luck...this is not for everyone for sure. - PalladunExplorerI just joined, don't under stand what you are guarding,

Lots of information here on most of the companies but nothing on Primo and only one or two for J&G or Swift.
Anyone have information they can share on well they service their guards?
We have worked for J and G for over a year. Great pay and good people to work for. - waywardwindsExplorerwell we are still on our first gate now started feb. 5th. so far there has been 2 wells drilled 5 tank faclity expanded to a 10 tank faclity. a pipe line crew running 4 miles of pipe to another rig across hwy 97 and the pad construction crews. this has been a very busy gate . but now its dead waiting for the frac crew to come they said maybe in 3-4 more days.
seeing all the gate guards along 97 and 469 when i go to town they have it good not near the dust we have out in the boonies ( hahah) and a main road for all the gravel trucks. they run 24 -7 it seems. the gate that got my attention is a tiny air stream with a tent and what looks like a deer stand with the legs cut off. thats wild way to small for me and how do you keep the tent up with all the high winds?
dang the snakes are out bad around here. oh and how do you deal with these litle black nats. off don't seem to work much they get in your hair down your shirt and bite the hell out of you can't sit out out side much they will be all over you in a couple min. - ol_Bombero-JCExplorer
