That comment is bothering me, too. It appears like they are trying to run it as if you are an employee and that is verboten, under the rules of an independent contractor. We interviewed with them, but now will reconsider, after that comment. If the Texas Employment Commission gets wind of their actions, they will end up as employers with employees, not the way they want to be.abusman40 wrote:
Also in that they are relatively new to the business they are sort of paranoid about how one goes about doing the job. A number of folks have been released over minor issues rather than having a chance to discuss the issue.
Just curious. What "minor issues" could result in your firing/release?? - Anonymous

Is anyone working for Loma? If so, what is your opinion of the organization.
We work for Loma. Loma is new to the gate guard business a little less than a year. They hire you as an independent contractor via 1099 tax form. They supply you with generator, lights and water. If your lucky you might get a vest smaller than 2xx/3xx extra large.
As for field support, water and fuel delivery has been good. However they only have one trailer set up for such delivery. As they expand locations this could become a problem. Our last delivery was about 11:00 pm.
They have a person that is supposed to do your gen. set when going onto a site. We find this person to be less than through.

The plus side is that they pay more than some of the major companies.
Should you have more specific questions send a pm and we'll try to answer them. - craftiemissyExplorerO.K. ladies the next luncheon will be held at high noon at Joe Gulley Park in Kenedy on Saturday the 7th of April. The park is at the intersection of 181 and 72. Outdoors and different this time! It will be a potluck and I will provide bar b que ribs and brisket. P.M. me if you can bring a dish and I will reply if someone already volunteered to bring that dish. We can use a salad, beans, desserts, etc. I will also provide a cooler and a FEW drinks. Please bring a favorite drink, if you have one and table settings (plates and silverware). Your favorite camp chair would probably be a good addition, too.
- mdbassExplorerWe smoked fish today in our Masterbuilt smoker. Wow it was good! The smoker was recommended by Andy (www.myoldrv.com)and we are very happy with it. Gate guarding is perfect for experimenting with a smoker.

Well looks like we are going to have to come off our gate early, wife nearly did a header off the steps and now her neck is hurting. (disc deterioration) Gate is with Hunt and Nabors drilling, good people. Gate has to be watched or closed. Job should be here for another month.. don't know if anyone is waiting or has something ending and needing a new gate. Calling Jamie Monday morning so if anyone is interested drop me a PM. Gate is outside Poth, tx.
Sorry to hear about her mishap! Hope all heals well!! - Don_SharExplorerWell very quiet here this morning, I went to Laredo to do a little shopping. On the way around to the WalMart I saw this Osprey. Beautiful bird.

- Don_SharExplorerWish we could get a gate like that, not been so lucky. We are on a County Road, not inside the property, 150 + per day, one rig, one frack, and rework rigs. Dust constantly in our face and trailer, it has been difficult to get them to water down. Our prior gate was very busy as well.
Anytime we got to getting dust pretty bad we ask the company man and he would get the road watered. One time they watered the road every other day for 3 weeks. Talk to your company man. Swift is real good about taking care of the gate guards. - mimi55ExplorerIs anyone working for Loma? If so, what is your opinion of the organization.
