You are correct about one thing with the solid fold down steps, if they are dirty, the dirt comes inside the camper, you need space to open them, and if you just need to put something inside quick, you have to drop the steps down.
On the other hand, they are so solid, its awesome.
After 4 years, I noticed my last camper, the frame where the factory installed steps were mounted to the trailer was actually cracking. I was able to take a flat metal rod, bend it into an L-shape, drilled holes and bolt it to the top and side of the L frame and to the trailer. But it also forever seemed a bit spongy, so I kept a small adjustable foot rest under the middle step to keep it from being so spongy.
Getting the pull down solid steps is such a refreshment. Solid as a rock! At one point, my wife and I were both standing on one at the same time, and I made a comment to her how nice it was it was able to support both our weights at the same time and it was solid. The feet are adjustable. But as said, they are prone to drop dirt inside.
Yours looks great! The fact they go all the way to the ground and are adjustable is a great plus. Ours is adjustable too. The only disadvantage, and you'll experience this also, is if you are in a new location and you have to adjust them before you can enter. If you are on the side of the road, it's just a bit more time consuming than simply plopping down the factory built style.
Another thing, we have already, experienced the ground being so low to the campsite pad, I had to put blocks under length extensions. No biggie, since I always carry lots of lumber, it's just something to consider if you are camping in a new place you've never been to. Always have something ready to put under the extensions, that can be built up as high as 8 or 10 inches. I actually had to do that at our last campsite just a couple weeks ago.
Congrats on your new addition. It looks nice and looks like you did a nice job of installing it. And considering you've already broken it in and it didn't collapse on you and land you in the hospital with a broken leg, you did a great job installing!
Thanks for sharing. It looks real nice!
