Installing 50 Amp in garage

I want to install a 50 amp receptacle in my garage for when I have the motor home parked in the driveway. I just started researching the parts I need to get ready for the electrician. Is there a certain part # for the receptacle? I saw one that I thought would work on Amazon but it mentioned 240volt. I believe that the 50 amp has two hot 120 legs. I just want to make sure I buy the correct receptacle.

This is what I am looking at. Several of the reviews mention that they put this in for an RV.

Looks like a good box for an outdoor outlet.

Sounds like this is you first pass at electrical work?

If so might get an electrician to look over when done if doing DIY. Keep in mind installing a new breaker requires correct space in breaker panel, and opening a LIVE electrical panel with 240 Volts and a ton of amps that can kill. Even if you throw the Main the leads to the main are still HOT.
One just to have some caution and Common Sense when doing electrical work.
  • I must ask,, If you must ask what Box? I wonder about your ability to instal.
  • I would suggest that you put the outlet on the outside of the garage in a weatherproof box. That way you can close the doors tothe garage without the cord getting in the way.
  • A simple 50A dryer outlet will get the job done for indoor application. 6-3/8-1 romex in the length you need. Connectors, 4sq box and 50A two pole breaker.

YouTube and do it your self!!!
  • The standard "50 amp" RV service is 120/240 volts, exactly the same as many residential ranges and even uses the same NEMA 14-50R outlet. Two hot legs, one neutral, and a safety ground. The available voltages are 120 volts from each hot leg to neutral, and 240 volts from hot leg to hot leg
  • You should let the electrician buy the parts if you’re asking this. Seriously...
