Installing Splash Guard

I bought a Splash Guard to put on the back of my 2003 Damon Escaper. I went out last night to install it and the bumper is contoured up over the hitch. So only about half of the mounting channel is in contact with the actual bumper on each side. There are 2 4ft channels of aluminum that mount to the bumper but I'm concerned that the sections over the hitch area of the bumper will not support the guard since it doesn't reach the bumper to bolt it on.

I thought about adding something that drops down from the bumper as a spacer of some sort but I want it to look good. Has anyone already done this so I don't recreate the wheel? Open to suggestions!

Not a good picture but all I had on my computer:

Leave a gap at the hitch. Being at the center, the gap won't make any difference in the performance. If you're installing this to protect your toad though, be aware that it will kick up small stones and road debris, just not quite as badly as the full width flaps can.

I am installing to protect the toad...do you mean the guard itself will kick up the small rocks? Will it do this even if I trim it so it doesn't drag the ground?

I was worried it might look funny if I just left a big gap where the bumper goes up...it would be a full 1/3 of the bumper just about...

Yes, the guard will kick up small stones and other light debris. Cutting it shorter will help, but not eliminate the problem. The air flow under it will still create an upward air flow.
