Insurance - Collision on a towable?

We have comprehensive and collision on our trailer through Allstate which also insures our autos.

Pay for the extra insurance on your trailer. You will feel better about it. We had full coverage on a $30,000 TT for a few hundred dollars a year. Worth it IMHO.

Actually, our Auto is through Mercury, and they don't insure RVs. Our agent placed us with Progressive for the trailer.

I have both comprehensive and collision on my trailer through Liberty Mutual. I have a claim in now as one wheel fell off the trailer. This is considered comprehensive. When my late husband grazed a tree and did damage that was considered collision.

Liability and property damage is covered by the tow vehicle's insurance.
Collision and Comprehensive coverage is on a separate RV policy in most cases.
Some owners have both the RV and tow vehicle covered at the same insurance company.

Many owners have RV insurance at a separate specialty insurance company, as they may cover loopholes that regular auto insurance companies do not cover.

Many owners also have AAA or Good Sam RV towing insurance.

Check with your agent, if your lucky enough to have a company that actually still has agents, what happens if; After backing into a space
and unhooking from your TV the trailer rolls down the hill, because you forgot chalks, and smashes into 2 rv's and a pickup.

Are you covered??? I suggest checking your coverage very carefully.

Having just sold the house and joined the ranks of the "Full Time RVers" I discovered that my insurance company (State Farm) did not cover our RV when it was parked (disconnected from the TV) because we canceled our Homeowners Policy. I asked if they had any such coverage as we had been with them over 30 years. Nope! Hello, Good Sam! Not only does GS cover full time RVers they also saved me money on my TV and REALLY save me money on my Side X Side.

As someone who just went through this issue...

My comprehensive auto insurance policy did not cover the damage to my trailer only the scuff I put on the other gentleman's trailer. This was because it was attached to my truck and in motion.

The damage to my trailer was covered by the Trailer/RV insurance. My auto coverage did not cover it.

This was in Alberta, so there will different rules depending where you are and what your coverage states.

Why don't you ask your insurance agent who can tell you what want to know about insurance??????:S

Tow behind coverage apparently varies from state to state. You MUST talk with an insurance agent in your state to find out what covers what.
