Insurance - Collision on a towable?

Hi All,

Looking at insurance for a travel trailer, and I got to wondering. Comprehensive is pretty clear, something happens while it is sitting there and it is covered according to the policy.

However, collision doesn't make any sense to me for a trailer. If I have an accident while towing, it's covered under the tow vehicle policy, so when would collision every apply to a trailer?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

This is the way it is in Canada. You need to purchase collision coverage if you want or need it (bank financing requires it). Liability is covered under the TV. Can't forget about comprehensive too (fire, theft etc.).

  • I insured my TT and vehicle with the same company for the max just in case. You do not want to get in the middle of insurance companies pointing at the other guy. JMO
  • Most insurance will cover the trailer while towing, but not if it becomes detached from the vehicle and causes damage. That is Collision.
  • Check wiith your insurance agent. We had one totalled through no fault of ours.
Found out the tow vehicle insurance covered nothing.
The at fault drivers ins covered it, but we have since had all our insurances checked, and had to add policies for cargo trailers, camper and more.
