He was trying to help you, without making a specific commitment. As in many other situations, unqualified commitments become policy which lends itself to abuse. If he had said yes to someone in a class B who could stay overnight without any problem, then someone with a 45' class A pulling a car trailer could (and probably would) claim that they should be able to overnight also, even though they block the entire parking lot.

My son was a Cracker Barrel manager years ago. Corporate instructed store managers to use the terminology as you were told.

If you ask the manager if you can park they were instructed to state, "I can't tell you that you can park, but I won't ask you to leave."

This verbiage, supposedly, relieved Cracker Barrel of any legal liability, if a problem developed.

I park at Cracker Barrels, but arrive late in the evening after the dinner rush.

The manager told me that what he said made sure that the company would have no liability if something happened.

I just thought it was a pretty interesting statement.

A Cracker Barrel manager told me that the RV parking spots in the lots are intended for people to park their rig and come inside to eat, not camp overnight.

We just spent the night at a Cracker Barrel in Mississippi. There were 3 other RVs there. We ate dinner and then notified the manager who told us to sleep well. I left before dawn to be out of the way of the breakfast crowd.

I'm too long for the Cracker Barrel RV spots with my 42' fifth wheel and 22' truck.
