My experience, when a sign on the Interstate is showing a price for diesel, there is at least one truck lane. There may or may not be a diesel pump in the car lanes, but usually at least one lane or one pump.
Small towns, in rural areas, off the Interstate, it is more likely that you will be sharing space with smaller vehicles, but the fueling lane has been designed to accommodate a pickup hauling a 20-30 foot trailer. Length will be less an issue than height, and you might have to wait for smaller traffic to clear before getting to the pump.
This is all midwest and southwest farm and ranch country. I have no experience with traveling in the densely populated coastal areas, except as motorcoach passenger, and the bus can go all day without stopping for fuel.
