When our goal is just to get "from here to there", such as when we left upstate NY in January heading south, the interstates are our preference. Once we reach warmer territory with no winter weather to worry about, we tend to run more US and state highways. Roads like 301 down through central Florida make for a nice change, and being a 4-lane divided highway for the most part, means no passing issues either.
