Generally interstate highways have much lower fatality rate per mile vs. secondary roads. Here in southern Ca. I'd take an interstate over a crowded two lane any day. I'm thinking of you highway 395 from Adelanto to the 14 junction.
Now put me in the center of Utah, NV etc. and uncrowded secondary roads are fun to drive.
