As to the original post, I believe that there are two distinct types of travelers, there are those that travel for the sake of traveling, most of which use the secondary routes such as US highways, State highways, and so called Back roads, this group may or may not be heading to any particular destination, and are not worried about time, and like to site see along the way.
Then there is the group to which I am usually a part of, the Destination traveler, we are usually headed to a specific destination, ie: Yellowstone, Glacier, Tetons, Yosemite, etc.,we want to get to the destination as quickly as possible to have more time to spend at the destination instead of spending more time driving regardless of what type of road it's on, to this end, the interstates, whenever possible, work better for us.
Whatever type of roads you use, keep it safe & enjoy your travels.
