One of the things I do find irritating about so many tailgaters is that they're are so focused on tailgating that they don't pass when they have an opportunity. I also think that with the advent of the interstate system and so many 4-lane secondary roads, particularly close to cities, many people, newer drivers in particular, aren't familiar with the concept of passing.
I've noticed that too.
Sometimes I slow down to let a tailgater pass and then just continue to tailgate and slow down with me. I've gotten down to 30 mph and they just set back there 6 feet from my back bumper. Too bad they can't hear me screaming at them. lol
X2!!
We were headed to the coast on Christmas day and we were the first Vehicle behind a slow driver 55 mph road driving between 45 to 50 and some times as low a 40! :S
on a couple nice straightaways I moved right to the fog line to give the cars behind me clear view to pass, No Takers, the next straightaway I looked over to DW and asked "Permission to Pass?" she looked at me and said go for it. Pulled of a textbook pass and was happily on our way at the speed limit.
